These Arent's Chotchkie's!

I love this sight:

Isn't is so relaxing?!

And all of my relaxing has me thinking of absolutely random things.  Such as the first time I ever heard the word "chotchkie" (Urban Dictionary) I honestly thought that it was the name of a Russian artist!  I'd hear all of these interior designers on tv shows calling objects "chotchkies" and I'd think "where do I buy them?!"  It's not until I actually realized that the objects had nothing in common (from ceramics, to knives, to baskets) that I started to understand that it meant a collection of objects.

Anyways, I'm not a "collector" of anything.  I actually cringe a little when people ask me if I collect anything.  I'm one of those people that literally reviews my house/closet quarterly and finds things to donate to Goodwill.  I don't want to be cluttered!  I have a hard time enjoying collections of anything.  Besides, you tell someone you like something, and then that's all you're ever going to get for birthdays, Christmas, or President's Day.  A girl can only handle so many ceramic cows!  Note: please don't take offense if you do collect ceramic cows.  I'm sure they're awesome!

There is a point to this post!

I'm hesitant to say it, but I do collect one thing.  Whenever Butch and I travel, I buy a nativity scene.  I love to see a culture's take on the most important story ever.  When I see these different nativity scenes, they remind me that Jesus came to save everyone.  This means, He came for every person in EVERY country, nation, and tribe.

"It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners"  1 Timothy 1:15

"After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands; and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb."  Revelation 7:9-10

This truth is beautiful to me.

Here's a picture of my collection so far:

There are scenes from Peru, Panama, Italy, Mexico, Honduras, and the USA.  There'll be more from our future travels too!

Now this doesn't necessarily count as collection for me because I only put it out once a year.  They're also of some value....not that they were pricey, but that they were created by artisans, so I don't consider it a "chotchkie".

Ok, now I want to return to my "relaxing" view, but I don't want to part without wishing all of you Butch a wonderful Merry Christmas!
