Growing a garden while killing weeds

We are growing a garden!

We're pretty new at this, although Butch would claim he's an old pro, so we're pretty excited to see green!  An older gentleman I know said that he was surprised to hear that we were planting one.  He said, "You don't see a lot of young people planting gardens now a-days."

we've got green beans

and corn

and squash

and carrots (they're very tiny here)

and a 3rd place to put our tomatoes once they're ready

We've got like 4 different tomatoes.....we LOVE tomatoes!  We're going to have green tomatoes to fry, roma tomatoes for salsa, big heirloom for everyday, and black tomatoes!  Yes, black!  They're called "Black from Tula" and they're supposed to be ugly but taste amazing.  I'll let you know!

We're also growing some peppers, cantaloupe, and water melon.  They're not doing so well though.  Sigh....we'll see if they make it or not.

I think we're going to try freezing a lot of our vegetables for the winter time.....anyone know how to do this?  Maybe we'll have to buy something that will vacuum seal the food.

And while we wait for our garden to grow, we're killing our weeds!  You see all of those brown spots?  Yup, they're weeds.  Butch goes CRAZY over weeds.  They don't bother me that much.

I'd rather have a green yard than brown, patchy, grass.

  1. I freeze a lot of corn, lima beans and green beans each summer. I'm hoping to learn to can some things this summer also! My mom has a food saver vacuum pack thing-a-ma-jig and she loves it. The main down side is that the bags are pretty expensive (but they can be reused)
